Will Mindhunter’s New Move Do Justice?

Mindhunter has been one of Netflix’s most talked-about shows ever since it dropped its first season back in 2017. Dark, gripping, and based on real FBI history, the series had everything going for it. But fans were left hanging when, after two brilliant seasons, the show quietly disappeared. Netflix didn’t officially cancel it, but it also didn’t bring it back. And just like that, Mindhunter became one of those rare shows that people kept hoping for, year after year.

Now, after all this time, there’s finally a small glimmer of hope. Actor Holt McCallany, who played Agent Bill Tench, has said that director David Fincher might bring Mindhunter back, but not as a third season. Instead, it could return as three two-hour films on Netflix. Yes, that’s a big deal. At least it means the story might get some kind of closure but why not just bring back the full series?

While three long movies sound exciting, Mindhunter was a show that thrived on slow-burn storytelling. It took its time to dig deep into the minds of serial killers and the agents trying to understand them. A proper season would have allowed for more detailed character arcs and new cases. While it is thrilling to know we have three full length movies incoming, a full series might have done more justice to its brilliant world.

Still, if David Fincher is on board, and Netflix gives the green light, even three movies are worth getting excited about. After all, some closure is better than none and for a show like Mindhunter, fans will take what they can get.
