As it is Netflix is the costliest OTT service in India amongst all the available platforms. Given the competition, one would expect a lowering of price, but is the opposite in store?
Although no genuine buzz of that sort has come in The Indian market, the recent rise of the subscription fees in the UK is making the existing customers think in that way. Netflix UK has raised its charge, and the updated price will be applicable going forward across various plans. Earlier in the year, the same happened in the US as well.
The reason for the increasing price is said to be the production of original content on the streaming platform. As various other OTT platforms are making their debut and in the process, taking away their content from Netflix, the pressure to create original catalogue is increasing. Keeping in view the escalating production costs, Netflix is raising its fee in a phased manner across various territories.
Under these circumstances and looking at the announcements of multiple original films and series content from the Indian market, the doubt regarding the price hike is sure to come across the customers in India. Netflix, on its part, has not made any noise in this direction so far and is looking at a cheaper mobile viewing access option for Indian masses.
