Will Netflix’s One Day Come Near To Its Past Perfection?

Based on the 2009 novel of the same name, Netflix continues the tradition of adaptations as soon as 2024 starts. They just dropped the trailer, and it would be an understatement to say that the trailer was underwhelming.

However, as the trailer dropped, it became prominent that people started drawing comparisons with its previous adaptation featuring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.

“One Day” chronicles Dexter and Emma’s lives on July 15th over two decades. After university, they navigate friendships, careers, and relationships. Dexter’s success contrasts with Emma’s struggles.

Despite challenges, their connection endures, leading to unexpected turns and poignant moments. The story unfolds, exploring the complexity of their relationship against the backdrop of life’s unpredictability. Basically, this is the plot, but Netflix’s reputation for adaptations raises some eyebrows.

This adaptation will have 14 episodes in total, with each episode featuring Dexter and Emma growing up and their visits with each other that will properly shape the story. Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall will star in the adaptation and look somewhat okay as the series drops on February 8th on Netflix.

But the promising tone might turn into utter disappointment and torture, as the same happened with Netflix’s Persuasion and The Woman in the Window. Despite the long history of success, Netflix just slapped a tag of big failure on them, as One Day can see a similar fate.
