Another fantasy novel in the making for Netflix and this time it is in the Grishaverse. Well, in layman’s language, the bestselling novel Shadow and Bone will almost be out now. Leigh Bardugo’s famous novel will be getting a live action series, which earlier was slated to release in the film format. Now it will be an eight episode affair that will have stories from not but two books. Yes, Shadow and Bones will have a combined story line of both Shadow and Bone, the first book in the Grisha trilogy and Six of Crows, the first book of a duology that is also set in the Grishaverse.
Earlier, another fantasy novel that was turned into a series was The Witcher. Released in 2019, The Witcher reached a crazy fan following and has been a hit with everyone since its release. Now the next big budget fantasy novel will be Shadow and Bones, the story has fresh new faces leading the show and is more of a young adult genre. The Witcher was destined to have a decent fan following as it starred Henry Cavil, but of course he can charm anyone, even if they aren’t his fan. Will this be the case with Shadow and Bone though? This year also saw another release of a fantasy novel turned into a series called the, “Cursed”. It had Katherine Langford leading the show but the show couldn’t receive much appreciation from the fans as apparently it didn’t do enough justice.
So at this Shadow and Bone can go either way. It might be over the board fantasy drama that couldn’t deliver or it will be the next “The Witcher”. We can’t say, until we see more into it. The show is supposed to cover two books together which are not each other’s sequel or prequel. Both the stories according to Grishaverse go on separately but simultaneously.
The show will be starring Jessie Mei Li, Ben Barnes, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Kit Young, and Archie Renaux. The show will have Eric Heisserer as the showrunner, creator, head writer and executive producer. Principal shooting for the show took place in Hungary and post production started online during the pandemic lockdown. As the lockdown eased the team with proper precautions and measures resumed whatever was left for shooting in Vancouver. It was set to be released in 2020 but as the pandemic took over the world, it couldn’t be released and now is eyeing for a release in April, 2021.
It will be interesting to see how the show unfolds and how the adventure and fantasy captivates the people.
