Will Paul Thomas Anderson Break the Oscar Jinx with His Forthcoming Film?

As per a leading Hollywood entertainment website, filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson’s forthcoming untitled film, currently being stated as ‘Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Project’ is reportedly set to release sometime in the last quarter of 2021. If this happens, Anderson’s film will join the bandwagon of a slew of films already eyeing for a holiday season release.

Purportedly being written and directed by Anderson himself, the film will feature the charming actor Bradley Cooper alongside Cooper Hoffman (Late Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman’s son), and Benny Safdie in the leading roles.

Incidentally, before the acclaimed actor Philip Seymour Hoffman’s unfortunate demise in the year 2014, Anderson had previously collaborated with the actor in the 2012 drama film ‘The Master’ (co-starring Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams), the romantic dramedy ‘Punch-Drunk Love’ (co-starring Adam Sandler and Emily Watson) and in his directorial debut feature film ‘Hard Eight’.

Although Anderson’s forthcoming directorial film’s plot is being kept under the wraps. However, it is reportedly based on a high school student (Cooper Hoffman) of the 1970s San Fernando Valley, becoming an actor, and his relationship with a famous Hollywood filmmaker (played by Bradley Cooper). Born in the urban valley in Los Angeles, many of Anderson’s films have been reportedly shot in the San Fernando Valley.

Another actor whom Anderson has collaborated with more than once is the Academy Award-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis, who featured in Anderson’s period-drama film ‘Phantom Thread’, which was also the respected filmmaker’s last directorial feature film. Besides, Lewis also played the central character in Anderson’s highly rated film ‘There Will Be Blood’.

Interestingly, Anderson also has an Indian connection. Because back in 2015, he had directed a musical documentary film titled ‘Junun’, which documented the making of an Israeli composer’s album of the same name. The film was shot in Mehrangarh Fort in the state of Rajasthan.

It is noteworthy that Anderson has previously been nominated for the coveted Academy Awards a whopping eight times in several categories. Considering his powerhouse talent, it is quite surprising (or sheer bad luck) that he still hasn’t ever won an Oscar.

We sincerely hope that Anderson will be able to break the Oscar jinx with his ninth directorial feature film.
