Sekhar Kammula’s highly anticipated crime drama Kuberaa, starring Dhanush and Nagarjuna, is all set to arrive on June 20, which is tomorrow. Despite its star-studded cast, the movie has surprisingly failed to generate significant hype across India. Even in the southern regions, the buzz is shockingly lower than expected.
Kuberaa unites Dhanush and Nagarjuna for the first time ever, so the project initially gained a lot of attention and excitement. However, that buzz has gradually faded as the movie approaches its release. The Telugu states (Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) have shown a decent level of interest, but the hype in Tamil Nadu is surprisingly low for the Sekhar Kammula film.
According to many online reports, the latest Dhanush starrer may even fail to reach double-digit figures on its opening day. Even if the content turns out to be amazing, the film is expected to just about cross INR 10 crores on Day 1. These projections aren’t promising, especially considering the film’s primary markets and its staggering budget of INR 120 crores.
Moreover, Kuberaa has landed itself in major controversy. The Andhra Pradesh government has issued a special order allowing an INR 75 increase in film ticket prices. While this move might help the producers recover some costs, it has sparked considerable discontent among moviegoers, particularly in Andhra Pradesh.
Kuberaa faced a lengthy production of nearly three years. Now, the increased ticket prices could negatively impact its box office performance. If the film underperforms in terms of collections, we may even see it land on OTT much sooner than expected. Stay tuned for more updates.
