Will Prime Video’s Spanish Strategy Dominate In Indian Market?

In the Indian market, while it approves the existence of some of the biggest OTT players including Netflix, Hotstar, and SonyLIV, Prime Video faces almost zero to no competition. Especially after the fall of the glory of Hotstar, and with people being extremely skeptical regarding JioCinema, Prime Video might even work on extending its lead.

Though their Indian wing is doing perfectly fine, releasing shows such as “Poacher to Inspector Rishi” is definitely going to set the platform on fire. It is one of their Spanish wing’s strategies which might change the game forever.

India is not only a budding ground for entertainment and OTT but also a bigger market for video games and video game creators. If you are somewhat acquainted with YouTube streaming, you will know how big of a deal they actually are, especially with games such as BGMI and FIFA.

To tackle the rising popularity of Spanish streamers, Prime Video launched a show, “Operación Triunfo,” which got major attention from the fans. Talking about the views, 718.9M views and 53M participation does look like a good number for Spain, so imagine if Prime Video tries to implement it in the Indian demography where streamers are considered as Celebrity Gods.

“Entertainment can be more cost-effective for streamers than producing fiction,” said iZen president Jose Velasco, who has been the mind behind such shows for years now. “On the part of the streamers, this has also been an effect of shifting their focus. Now, entertainment and documentaries are new ways to attract the user’s attention on a daily basis.”

Though Amazon already invested in one such show, “Playground,” and it is streaming on Amazon MiniTV for free, the studio shouldn’t limit it to that.

“Playground” is entertaining in some instances, but if you consider the potential of the show, the studio can do wonders with it. Moving it to Prime Video or introducing a show from scratch about gamers and streamers, adding some documentary spice to it, Prime Video will have a well-working machine that will gather views like nothing else.
