Social media is literally abuzz with the rumours of Robert Pattinson’s Batman joining James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. However, those rumours have also indicated director Matt Reeves’ hesitation about this scenario. The Batman helmer is not completely satisfied with the idea but has not completely ruled out this possibility.
The DC fanbase is red-hot these days, as they are actively sharing their opinions about whether Pattinson should join the DCU as the franchise’s new Dark Knight. Given the stalled development of The Brave and the Bold and the DCU not managing to find its Caped Crusader, the odds of Pattinson becoming a part of the DCU should not be ignored.
While attending the recently conducted 2025 Golden Globes, Reeves addressed the issue. According to him, the very idea of his Batman joining the DCU should “make sense.”
“I mean, it really comes down to whether or not it makes sense. What’s been great is there was a story that I wanted to tell that we’re calling The Epic Crime Saga, which is the thrust of what we wanted to do. It’s been important to me to be able to play that out. James and Peter have been really, really great about that, and they’re letting us do that.”
Fans are craving more of Batman. Unfortunately, Reeves’ The Batman – Part II has been pushed back a year, leaving fans brokenhearted. Considering all the factors, the fate of Batman still seems uncertain in both the Elseworlds and the DCU.
Adding Robert Pattinson’s Batman seems like an intriguing idea, but his addition doesn’t make sense. Reeves’ noir-influenced take on the World’s Greatest Detective was grounded, while Gunn’s DCU appears to be leaning towards a more lighthearted, interconnected universe with a focus on humour, as teased by the new Superman trailer.
Moreover, Reeves’ Batman is set in a relatively early stage of Bruce Wayne’s career, while Gunn’s DCU seems to be establishing a more advanced timeline, given that The Brave and the Bold plans to launch Damian Wayne and the entire Bat family. Moreover, Reeves has a distinct vision for his Batman universe, and incorporating it into Gunn’s plans could potentially compromise that creative integrity. Let’s see what happens. Stay tuned for more updates.
