R. Madhavan’s much acclaimed film ‘Rocketry’ is still running in theatres in its fourth week despite a number of other new releases and the actor wants you to catch it on the big screen before it goes out. Well, he has pretty good reasons for the same but with its OTT release date and platform now out, how feasible is it!
The RHTDM fame took to Twitter earlier to express his gratitude to the audience for the love and support for ‘Rocketry’ and also request people who still haven’t seen the film to go watch it in theatres.
He further stated that how the story of Mr. Nambi Narayanan is relevant for all and is a story hailing from our own country. And the reason he cites as to why one should prefer watching it in cinemas is the hard work that has gone into making of the film specially the sound effects that can be best experienced only in theatres.
While what he says makes great sense, now that the film is set to release on Amazon Prime Video in just a couple of days on 26th July, will it be convincing enough or will it go out as an attempt in vain. To be honest, the chances for latter are much more and there’s nothing as such that can be done now.
Set for its digital premiere before the completion of the 28 day theatrical window, ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ cannot even be called a producer-actor or producer-director conflict case since Madhavan serves as all three for the film. The only reason left is the budgetary constraint that has been the sole reason in such instances.
Although we recently saw ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ performing well in theatres even after its OTT release on Netflix, the same cannot be said for certain in case of ‘Rocketry’ given its inspirational and emotional storyline rather than the mass masala entertainer feel that attracts the audience in larger number to the theatres.
This leaves us with a sad scenario where good and deserving films like ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ often end up with underwhelming results at the box office and are left with no choice but to reap the OTT benefits.
