Will RRR’s Release Be That Critical Push Industry Needs Desperately?

Team RRR announced today the wrap up of the shoot for the highly awaited magnum opus by SS Rajamouli. Except for a couple of pick up shots the entire shoot for the pan India film is now over and the post production work is underway.

Earlier last week team RRR had posted a small video on Instagram celebrating the completion of its two week-long song schedule in Ukraine. The recent announcement also included a small trivia for the fans watching every update closely and it was that the shooting finished with the same bike shot with which it had begun on November 19th, 2018.

With today’s official announcement of shoot wrap up, RRR is steadily moving towards its Dussehra release target. There have been speculations on the internet about the film getting delayed after the lackadaisical box office performance of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bell Bottom’ but this latest update that also mentions of the post production work further assures of the 13th October release date for RRR.

As RRR gears up for release much before other tentpole pan India films, it will serve as the perfect test case for similar future releases like Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa’ coming in December. But the same cannot be said now for Yash’s ‘KGF Chapter 2’ which got pushed to April next year.

While the uncertainty of the theatre situation and the dull response by the audience made the makers of ‘KGF Chapter 2’ take a safe route, RRR looks determined to follow the path makers have set for the film.

Fans have had divided opinions on such long delay for the ‘KGF’ sequel. Some support the move claiming it as strategic and that the film has the power to attract audience no matter when it releases, others think that such a long waiting period might make many lose interest in the film resulting in reduced hype upon its release.

RRR’s release in October will clear a number of doubts in the minds of filmmakers and cinema goers alike. Maybe not entirely but it will surely settle some of the dust around the volatility surrounding the theatre market of the country. It is now a wait and watch game with the hope that RRR’s release will provide that much needed reinvigorating force for the industry.
