Two after making his Netflix debut with Bright, Hollywood star Will Smith is all set to do another movie for them. He is joining hands to produce and star in a gangster drama named The Council.
Will Smith will reportedly play the role of New York City Crime kingpin Nicky Barnes in The Council. It is said to be based on real-life incidents that happened in 1970’s America. The Council tells the story of seven black gangsters who formed a syndicate in that period revolutionising drug trade.
What happens when Barnes decided to go against the rest of the council and his plans to become the leader of a new syndicate is said to be the core conflict of the story. He was eventually captured after multiple attempts by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Later Barnes turned an informant.
Peter Landesman writes the Council. Will Smith has in the past collaborated with him on Concussion where Landesman has also doubled up as director along with writing it. For, The Council, he will only work as a writer though. Other cast and crew details of this gangster drama are yet to be revealed.
