Will Smith Teases Hancock 2, Zendaya Eyed For Key Role

Hancock 2 is officially underway, as per Will Smith. The actor has revealed some interesting details about the sequel to the original 2008 blockbuster, which grossed over $629 million globally. Among other things, Smith plans to include Zendaya in the sequel’s cast.

The Oscar-winning actor recently appeared on xQc’s Twitch livestream and opened up about Hancock 2. This is what he said:

“There’s a really cool, really cool Hancock 2 idea,” Smith said during the stream. “We haven’t even talked about it, so I’m gonna give you one little piece—Zendaya is being approached for a role in Hancock 2.”

Hancock (2008) was a major commercial success, with critical praise directed at Will Smith’s portrayal of the controversial titular superhero, who suffers from alcoholism and amnesia. While he saves lives by putting himself at risk, he also causes significant collateral damage.

But his life takes a dramatic turn after he encounters Mary and Ray Embrey (Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman). Ray tries to help Hancock improve his public image and recover his memory, whereas Mary remains skeptical of Hancock’s intentions.

The original movie was a Sony project, helmed by Peter Berg, with Vince Gilligan and Vy Vincent Ngo serving as writers. It benefitted immensely from Smith’s charm and his chemistry with Theron. However, the rest of the movie didn’t fare as well. Some of its biggest letdowns were a weak storyline and an underwhelming villain.

Sony has yet to confirm this news.

As for Zendaya, it remains uncertain whether she will join Hancock 2, but passing up an opportunity to work with an actor like Will Smith is difficult—despite his controversy with Chris Rock. Smith is undoubtedly one of the most bankable movie stars, which is why Zendaya will have to think carefully about this decision. Stay tuned for more updates.
