Oscar-winning ‘King Richard’ actor Will Smith is all set to return to the big screen with a pulse-pounding action crime thriller movie titled ‘Sugar Bandits’. The film, which was initially announced in 2013, will be based on Chuck Hogan’s book ‘Devils in Exile’, which came out in 2010.
The basic plot of ‘Sugar Bandits’ ostensibly revolves around a tough Iraq war veteran, who joins forces with a team of fellow soldiers of an elite, vigilante squad to take care of the drug trade menace in Boston. But soon, he realizes that there is more to it than meets the eye. So, he makes it his mission to right the wrongs but on his trail is a sharp DEA agent and a pair of psychopath assassins. It is currently not confirmed whether Will Smith will star in the lead role in this movie.
‘Sugar Bandits’ is expected to be a big-budget, massively-mounted affair. And Will Smith is obviously not new to the action genre. Previously, the ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’ star has featured in several action films like ‘Men in Black’, ‘Bad Boys’, ‘Hancock’, ‘Suicide Squad’, and ‘Gemini Man’, etc.
An interesting thing about Will Smith’s ‘Sugar Bandits’ is its connection with Ben Affleck’s critically acclaimed Oscar-nominated crime thriller movie ‘The Town’. The source material for both these films are books written by Chuck Hogan. As we mentioned above, ‘Sugar Bandits’ is based on his book ‘Devils in Exile’ while ‘The Town’ was based on his 2004 book ‘Prince of Thieves’.
Besides ‘Sugar Bandits’, Will Smith’s upcoming acting projects include the fourth installment of the ‘Bad Boys’ film series and the much-anticipated sequel to the post-apocalyptic zombie action thriller flick ‘I Am Legend’ in which he will co-star with Michael B. Jordan. His last acting role was in Antoine Fuqua’s ‘Emancipation’, which was released on Apple TV+. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on Will Smith’s upcoming movie ‘Sugar Bandits’.
