R Balki is known for his hard-hitting films that touch on social subjects in society with projects like Cheeni Kum and Paa. R Balki was also one of the first filmmakers to shoot a project in the covid era as he collaborated with Akshay Kumar to make an ad to spread awareness about the Coronavirus which is rampant once again. With the restriction being slightly eased R Balki is planning another project.
It is being said that Sunny Deol and Shruti Haasan will play the lead roles in this project. The story is a family drama and looks to shed light on the emotional relationships between a family and their daughter. While things may be in an advanced stage there still isn’t an official statement as things aren’t put on paper yet but it is scheduled to go on floors in 2021.
Before this project R Balki already has an edge-of-the-seat thriller on his hands with Dulquer Salmaan playing the lead role. This is Dulquer’s third venture in Bollywood as his other two projects ‘Karvaan’ (2018) and ‘The Zoya Factor’ (2019). His outings in Bollywood have been a mixed bag so far but he still has a huge pan India appeal. This film is set to take off next month as Dulquer Salmaan will play is rumoured to play multiple characters with shrouds of mystery surrounding them.
Sunny Deol has had a reasonably mellow outing in his last few films as they have failed to create major buzz or uproar among the audience and was last seen in Behzad Khambata’s ‘Blank’ (2019) but Anil Sharma’s Apne 2 should provide a good boost to his bankability as it stars 3 generations of the Deol’s in one film. Shruti Haasan meanwhile has a great array of pan India titles with major superstars lined up with Vakeel Saab, Laaban, and Salaar. She is also working on a web series for Amazon Prime.
R Balki has always enjoyed the slice of life genre which is very close to realism as tugs at you emotionally so hopefully this project will see the day of light sooner rather than later.
