Will Super Mario Bros Sequel Be A Musical?

“Super Mario Bros.” undoubtedly showcased that the sky’s the limit for video game adaptation movies as it crossed the $1 billion threshold in no time. Besides that, it also became the second biggest hit of the year, following only Barbie.

Now, the success of the film is making people question: What’s next for the franchise?

According to reports, Jack Black is eagerly anticipating Universal Pictures and Illumination’s approval for a sequel to the hit “Super Mario Bros. Movie.”

“It has been radio silence,” Black tells Variety. “The only chatter has been coming from me, and I don’t even know if I’m allowed to chatter. I’ve been chomping at the bit to get back to business.”

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” adapts the Nintendo game, featuring plumber brothers rescuing a princess from Bowser’s underworld. Jack Black, Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Charlie Day form the voice cast for this animated adventure.

While thinking about the sequel, Black also pitches some interesting ideas, including a title change. With the new name, “Bowser’s Revenge,” he wants it to be a musical, along the lines of “Joker 2.”

“I think it should be a full musical, like what Todd Phillips is supposedly doing with ‘Joker 2.’”

The concept of musicals is seeing a rise in the West once again as more directors engage themselves in making one. The concept of Broadway musicals is definitely fascinating, and as it makes its way through Western mainstream filmmaking, we can observe some ‘classics’ down the alley.
