Will The Rock’s Deal Give Disney Some Boost?

Disney is suffering. It might not be prominent from the outside, but the company is going through a tough time, and even the fans are losing faith. Fans are losing faith in Disney animations, which were once their biggest asset. Despite this, there are still some sparks of brilliance.

Amidst all this, Disney and Dwayne Johnson’s production company Seven Bucks have struck a deal, giving Disney the first-look option. This brings up a very crucial question.

Will this deal help Disney make a comeback?

Disney doesn’t really need movies that feature The Rock. While it will definitely be beneficial for the platform, that can’t be ignored. However, Disney’s major problem isn’t that they aren’t bringing in numbers—they certainly are. What Disney needs to work on is their quality.

In the past, when they excelled in many aspects, from animations to musicals, they were the go-to entertainment company. But now, even the term “Disney movie” has become a mockery and a meme.

The Rock will definitely boost Disney’s numbers, but Disney should really ask the question: is this what they want right now?

Slowly but surely, if you take out the MCU and Star Wars, Disney has very little to show. Even in terms of animations, with Wish, they tried to go back to their old ways but failed miserably.

Also, just to clue you in, the deal is very similar to what Tom Cruise struck with WB. Seven Bucks Productions, founded by Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia, has signed a multi-year first-look deal with Disney to develop films for theatrical release and streaming.

This agreement extends beyond filmed content, allowing collaborations across Disney’s divisions, including parks, sports services, and cruises. Highlights include past projects like Jungle Cruise and upcoming films such as Moana 2 and a live-action Moana.
