After Premam & Ayyappanum Koshiyum, Sithara Entertainments has bought the Telugu remake rights of Kappela as its third movie from Malayalam industry. The same production team at Sithara Entertainment had last produced Allu Arjun’s blockbuster ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’ and Nani’s ‘Jersey’.
Kappela, starring Roshan Mathew, Anna Ben and Sreenath Bhasi, released in theatres a week before the lockdown was imposed. Though the film got great response from both audience and critics, it didn’t have a long theatrical run. Nevertheless, the film found a new lease of life when the makers released it on Netflix in May. Kappela is an intense romantic thriller and the directorial debut of Muhammad Musthafa.
Vishnu Venu, the producer of Kappela, took to social media to reveal the news, “Announcing a happy news! Kappela is to be remade in telugu by Sithara Entertainments (Producers of Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapuramulo, Jersey Movie, and many more). Kappela is the third movie from malayalam industry after Premam & Ayyappanum Koshiyum to be bought by them! Expressing our sincere thanks to all well wishers for making our small movie a grand success! (sic).”
While it is still not confirmed as to who will reprise the roles of the Malayalam actors, there has been talks about roping in Anna Ben in the Telugu remake as well. Many popular production house in the Tamil film industry are also in talks with Vishnu Venu to acquire the remake rights of the film. However, nothing has been finalised yet.
