It is rumoured that the Mari Selvaraj movie ‘Vaazhai’ will come to OTT before completing the eight week theater to OTT window.
As the highly anticipated ‘GOAT’ is now coming to theaters, there is really very less scope for ‘Vaazhai’. The movie has performed very well so long but as per reports, now it will be trying to attract OTT viewers.
The movie is said to be coming within a 45 day window which is two weeks less than the expected 8 week window and whether this will violate the rules of the Tamil filmmakers’ guild or not is not known yet.
But this can turn out to be a very smart move. ‘Vaazhai’ comes from the director Mari Selvaraj, who is known for films like ‘Karnan’ and ‘Maamannan’, and is one of the most trusted storytellers of the industry. It is his craft and mastery that the movie has performed so well until now. But these movies with different themes and no big stars do not usually go on to do good business in theaters and are meant for OTT mostly.
Having a good run in theaters and then pulling the film out to make it more attractive for OTT viewers will probably turn out to be a very smart step for such a small budget movie.
