The story of Aladdin and his wishes go way back. It’s a nostalgic yet evergreen story for everyone to cherish. Now the good news is the story is being reimagined in the new Netflix animated film Wish Dragon.
Netflix just dropped the trailer of Wish Dragon and boy oh boy, what an amazing and adorable trailer it is! The trailer revolves around Din, a working-class college student in China who mysteriously finds a magical teapot which is a home to Long, an all-powerful dragon capable of granting three wishes just like the Genie of Aladdin. Together they embark on an adventure through modern day Shanghai in pursuit of Din’s long-lost childhood friend, Lina and face some bigger challenges along the way.
The animation in the trailer of Wish Dragon looks extremely sharp and crisp, thanks to the marvelous work done by Base Animation Studios and Sony Pictures Animation, who is co-producing the film. The goal of the film and the Base Animation studio is to “make world class animation in China for China… and the world”. The film is in both Chinese and English language and it features the voice cast of Jimmy Wong as Din, John Cho as Long, the Dragon, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Lina along with Constance Wu, Will Yun Lee, Jimmy O. Yang amongst others.
Wish Dragon is the debut of Chris Appelhans as a director who always wanted the film to be made in China, with a strong combination of Mainland China creative team and an international cast of talent. Chris Bremble and Aron Warner will be producing the English version of the film whereas as legendary actor Jackie Chan will produce the Chinese version of Wish Dragon in association with Tencent Pictures and Base Animation Studios.
Wish Dragon is set to be released by Netflix on 11th June, 2021 and after seeing this amazing trailer, we only ‘wish’ the film reaches us as soon as possible.
