Wonka’s entry at the box office has been a bombastic one as the wacky chocolate maker definitely promises a tasty box office run. The approaching holidays will definitely do wonders for Wonka as it goes through a smooth start.
Though some strong holiday films will arrive during the holidays, WB will deliver the most happening calendar as three of their big movies will debut. But Wonka will give an alternative to the kids, making it good holiday entertainment.
Warner Bros. is banking on the endurance of its $125 million film, featuring Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka, to draw crowds during school closures.
Projected to open at around $35 million this weekend, it mirrors the preview results of 2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” Chalamet leads an ensemble cast, directed by Paul King of “Paddington” fame, in a whimsical take on the beloved children’s classic.
With promising stats, Wonka is also getting paired with good reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it is getting an 83% “fresh” rating, and on IMDb, 7.4.
If the film takes a hit, it will be definitely by WB as “The Color Purple” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” will soon be taking part in the race; both of them are highly anticipated. But again, Wonka and Aquaman will definitely take part in the child’s watch list.
