Great news for fans of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and who have always wondered why there wasn’t any solo MCU Hulk movie featuring the acclaimed performer. As per a recent report (via Geeks Worldwide), Hulk fans might be in for a grand treat as a live-action ‘World War Hulk’ film is rumored to commence production in the year 2022. And the film’s expected release date might be during the 2023 second half or early 2024.
The film on World War Hulk is purportedly based on a comic book of the same name that came out in the year 2007. World War Hulk was an action-packed enterprise where Hulk is exiled into outer space by the superhero group The Illuminati. But a stronger and angrier Hulk comes back to Earth to seek revenge from those responsible for his condition.
The first Marvel solo Hulk movie under the ambit of MCU Phase-1 was the 2008 film ‘The Incredible Hulk’ that starred another talented actor Edward Norton in the role of Bruce Banner / Hulk. Subsequently, Edward Norton was replaced by Mark Ruffalo as the green giant and starred in ‘The Avengers’, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, ‘Avenges: Infinity War’, and ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
The reason for Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk not getting a solo movie is related to the character’s film distribution rights since Marvel Studios was ostensibly not in favor of a solo Hulk film distributed by a different studio. While distribution rights for Hulk movies remained with Universal, the ability to make a film about Hulk’s character remained with Marvel.
Now that finally there is rumored news about a solo Hulk movie based on World War Hulk being made starring Mark Ruffalo, it is being speculated that the Hulk film distribution rights have been acquired by Marvel Studios. Mark Ruffalo will next be seen in the ‘She-Hulk’ series where he will reprise his role of Bruce Banner / Hulk.
