Marc Forster’s action horror movie ‘World War Z’ starring Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt was released in theatres in 2013. Besides getting critical appreciation, the big-ticket film went on to become a box office blockbuster grossing over $540 million globally.
And in case you are wondering why ‘World War Z’ still does not have a follow-up movie in this era of sequels, then we are rowing the same boat. In fact, a sequel was announced after the film’s release, but the plan was apparently shelved. The planned sequel was supposed to be helmed by Brad Pitt’s former collaborator and ‘Seven’ director David Fincher.
And now, in a fantastic piece of update for fans of the parent film ‘World War Z’, the 2013 blockbuster zombie movie will reportedly be getting a series (via Giant Freakin Robot). And not just that, Brad Pitt would act as the show’s producer. The ‘World War Z’ series has been given a go ahead by Apple and will ostensibly be released on the Apple TV Plus streaming platform.
However, it is currently not known whether the ‘World War Z’ series will be a sequel, spin-off, or a reboot of the parent film. And whether Brad Pitt will reprise his role in the series or whether he will be creatively involved in the project as well.
The parent film revolves around a former UN investigator (played by Brad Pitt), who travels the world in his attempt to put an end to a global zombie pandemic. The movie was based on Max Brooks’ 2006 novel ‘World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War’. In case you still haven’t seen the must-watch movie, you can stream it in India on the Netflix and Amazon Prime Video OTT platforms.
