There will soon be a new film adaptation of the 1847 classic novel ‘Wuthering Heights’. The Emily Bronte novel has been adapted into popular movies multiple times, but now there is much excitement among fans and readers because the movie will be from Emerald Fennell.
Emerald Fennell is known for previously directing films like ‘Promising Young Women’ and ‘Saltburn’. Emerald is one of the finest among the emerging filmmakers, and her debut film ‘Promising Young Women’ got her an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. It will be great to have an adaptation of the gothic tale of romance retold by her.
‘Wuthering Heights’ is the story of the antiperspirant Heathcliff, who falls in love with the daughter of the family that adopts him. His love offends a lot of people and he is resisted from uniting with Cathy, his love interest. Heathcliff decides to take revenge on those who did not let his relationship lead to fruition.
Among popular adaptations, the 1992 film had Ralph Fiennes in the lead role as Heathcliff, and the 2009 TV series had Tom Hardy in the role. While these two performances are hard to overpower, it will be curious to see what actors Emerald Fennell takes for the adaptation.
The release date, and further details have not been revealed yet, but hopefully there will soon be more announcements.
