X-Men ‘97 Season 3 Finds New Writer, Replaces Beau DeMayo

Marvel Studios has found the replacement of Beau DeMayo for its hit Disney+ animated series, X-Men ‘97. Matthew Chauncey will serve as the head writer for Season 3. Serving as one of the writers on Marvel’s What If…?, Chauncey will be taking over writing duties from DeMayo for the third season.

Marvel fired Beau DeMayo in March this year. The production house did not reveal the exact reason behind the firing, but some of the reports have revealed that DeMayo was a difficult person to work with. Plus, he had an OnlyFans account, which may have resulted in his termination.

DeMayo had already written two seasons of X-Men ‘97 and had some initial ideas about the third chapter before breaking ties with Marvel Studios.

Matthew Chauncey will work with Jake Castorena, the series’ helmer since the debut season. Moreover, Eric and Julia Lewald, and Larry Houston will stay as consulting producers. These individuals served as executive producers for the original X-Men: The Animated Series.

X-Men ‘97 is a critical darling for Marvel. On Rotten Tomatoes, the animated series stands at a 99% ‘fresh’ rating based on 73 certified reviews. While there’s no information yet on the release window of Season 3, Season 2 may arrive on Disney+ Hotstar in late 2025. Stay tuned for more updates.
