As we had reported earlier, the anthology series will consist of several short films, and will feature top Bollywood stars like Manoj Bajpayee, Gajraj Rao, Radhika Madan, Harshvardhan Kapoor, among others. Now comes news that Netflix’s X-Ray has just gotten bigger. Coz it has added Ali Fazal, Kay Kay Menon and Shweta Basu Prasad to its already star-studded cast.
Netflix‘s anthology series will comprise of several short films, and will be based on acclaimed Bengali writer – director Satyajit Ray’s works. Each short film in the anthology will focus on one story from Satyajit Ray’s short stories collection. The films will not reprise the stories as is, but will pay homage to Satyajit Ray’s remarkable skills as a storyteller.
X-Ray: Selected Satyajit Shorts will be directed by talented directors Abhishek Chaubey (Ishqiya, Udta Punjab), Vasan Bala (Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota) and popular Bengali filmmaker, Srijit Mukherji (Dwitiyo Purush, Begum Jaan). The first season of the anthology will have five short films, each one hour long. Srijit Mukherji will direct two short films. The first short film stars Kay Kay Menon, Bidita Bag and Rajesh Sharma as leads. Mukherji has roped in Ali Fazal and Shweta Basu Prasad to star in his second short film.
Abhishek Chaubey’s short film will feature Manoj Bajpayee and Gajraj Rao; Vasan Bala’s will have Radhika Madan and Harshvardhan Kapoor as leads. The hunt for a fourth director to add to the anthology is on. Rest assured that we will inform our readers as soon as the fourth director is finalised.
The story was first broken by digital publication, Peeping Moon.
Netflix has recently collaborated with Viacom 18 on several projects. Jamtara – Sabka Number Aayega, She, And Taj Mahal 1989 were the results of that collaboration. X-Ray has been mounted on a lavish scale. Srijit Mukherji’s first short is almost complete. Netflix hopes to get the anthology ready for release in the first quarter of 2021.
