Steven Yeun (Invincible, Beef) and Kerry Washington (The Six Triple Eight) have joined Netflix’s Animals, an upcoming kidnapping thriller helmed by Ben Affleck, who also stars alongside Gillian Anderson (Sex Education). Connor McIntyre wrote the film, with revisions by Billy Ray.
The latest casting announcements confirm that it will be another high-profile Netflix production after being sidelined for over a year.
Filming for Animals is scheduled to commence in April in Los Angeles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, L.A. was chosen as the filming location because the producers aim to establish the city as a primary filmmaking hub for Hollywood and create job opportunities for nearby communities.
The crime thriller revolves around a mayoral candidate and his wife, whose son is kidnapped unexpectedly. Surrounded by political rivals, bitter enemies, and more, the couple takes matters into their own hands—even if it means getting their hands dirty to save their son.
Affleck plays the mayoral candidate, while Anderson portrays his wife. Yeun takes on the role of the candidate’s campaign manager.
Kevin Halloran, Lucy Damon, and Michael Joe will serve as executive producers for Artists Equity. Whereas real-life best friends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will produce the project under the same banner. Other production companies involved include MakeReady and Fifth Season.
Animals marks Netflix’s next collaboration with Artists Equity after RIP, a forthcoming crime thriller directed by Joe Carnahan. Stay tuned for more updates.
