Zack Snyder has big plans on the anvil for his hotly anticipated movie, ‘Rebel Moon’. The movie has whipped up considerable frenzy amongst movie buffs and Zack Snyder fans. Rebel Moon will be released in two parts. ‘Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire’ premieres on Netflix on December 22. Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver releases on Netflix on April 19, 2024.
But that is not the only Rebel Moon content coming from Zack Snyder’s creative stables. In the works are an animated series set in the Rebel Moon universe. Also in development is an animated comic book, and a narrative podcast on Rebel Moon. Interestingly, all three will act as prequels to the Rebel Moon movies, and are set before the events of the movies.
Creator Zack Snyder made the revelations in an exclusive chat with media publication, Total Film. Snyder calls himself the “gatekeeper for what’s possible” in the Rebel Moon universe. As per co-writer Kurt Johnstad, the Rebel Moon movies are just tips of the iceberg. The story goes back 800 years from the movies, and includes hundreds of pages of documents, methodology, mythology and lore.
For those who don’t know, ‘Rebel Moon’ is set in a futuristic space-faring world, amidst war that takes place in space. The story centres on a peaceful planet at the edge of the galaxy, and its fight for survival, after it comes under threat from the tyrannical regent named Balisarius.
The official synopsis for ‘Rebel Moon’ reads,
“When a colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighbouring planets to help them take a stand.”
There’s no information on the story or plot for the Rebel Moon animated series, neither from Netflix nor from Zack Snyder.
Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire premieres on Netflix worldwide on 22nd December, 2023. Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver arrives on Netflix on 19th April, 2024.
