It seems that Zack Snyder will be holding nothing back, and pumping Justice League, the SnyderCut version with every possible plotline he had previously envisioned for the movie – which also includes an epic cliffhanger. So after 4 hours of epic action, we are expected to see a brilliant cliffhanger at the very end, according to multiple reports.
Now normally, no one would be interested to watch a 4 hour long movie which is then expected to have a huge cliffhanger – especially since there is more than a 95% chance that there will not be another movie made to clear up the neglected plot device. But this is Zack Snyder we are talking about here, and that has only increased the hype surrounding the movie. There is still hope among many fans that the 2017 Justice League was bad because of the Warner Bros. Studios (and those many would be right), and hence all these fans expect Zack Snyder’s upcoming beast of a movie to be good, cliffhanger and all.
But why a cliffhanger though? With four hours of viewing time, why does Snyder want to end the Superheroepic on a heart-stopper? Well even without Snyder telling us his reasoning, it is pretty easy to understand – Zack Snyder was supposed to be what Kevin Feige is to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but for the DC Extended Universe. So the writer – director had made plans for movies and sequels, except the Studios couldn’t help themselves from meddling.
According to Snyder, Justice League was always supposed to be a three part movie series, which were supposed to come out one after the other. In the second movie, we were supposed to see the dystopian future from Batman’s dream, where Darkseid invaded/ is invading Earth and has brought mass-destruction to multiple metropolitan cities, becoming real. Plus the inclusion of all these alien invaders, was an idea Snyder wanted to cultivate – that there are other worlds out there. The Justice League would eventually meet some Green Lanterns towards the end of the first part of the film franchise and then both teams would go to Apokolips to face Darkseid and beat him.
As far as movie franchise plots go, it isn’t all that bad. But it is highly unlikely that we will ever get to watch those sequels. Even this movie was allowed because Warner Pictures had an ulterior motive. So unless this movie does something so ridiculously brilliant that it can’t be ignored, we will most likely be saying adieu to Snyder’s DCEU.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will drop in theaters and on HBOMax on 18th March 2021.
