Before revealing a new poster today, acclaimed filmmaker Zack Snyder recently took to Twitter to launch an ingenious marketing campaign for his upcoming Netflix directorial zombie heist flick ‘Army of the Dead’. The tweet started with the words: “I’m forming a new team for a dangerous mission. But I must warn you: the last crew didn’t make it.”
To add to the drama, Synder puzzled his fans when he challenged them to crack the code to find the hidden URL and be one of the lucky few to join the Netflix film ‘Army of the Dead’ exclusive trailer preview event for which limited spots were said to be available.
Just below the post, he had posted a gif (moving) picture of a casino full of zombies. Viewers were asked to crack the code to qualify for Tuesday’s trailer preview event. The campaign has already ended nevertheless you can watch the ‘video on demand’ on the Netflix twitch channel, whose link Synder had given in his tweet. The approximately hour-long video ostensibly shows us live footage of the casino’s security cameras where zombies are seen roaming around.
The innovative marketing strategy has proved to be a crowd-puller and has demonstrated Snyder’s marketing acumen, of which even the marketing wizard Phillip Kotler would be proud of.
The Netflix film ‘Army of the Dead’, which is co-written by Synder himself, revolves around a group of mercenaries’ daredevil attempt to execute an almost impossible heist in a zombie-infested quarantine zone in Las Vegas.
Zack Snyder, who had previously helmed the 2004 zombie movie ‘Dawn of the Dead’, which was written by ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ director James Gunn, had been wanting to make his second zombie film for many years. Finally, the project went on floors in 2019.
This action-horror film stars ex-WWE superstar Dave Bautista alongside Ella Purnell and Ana de la Reguera and is slated to release on Netflix on May 21, 2021.
