Just like that, Marvel Studios has become the talk of the town again, thanks to their thunderous panel and shocking disclosures at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con event. Speaking of shocking disclosures, we learned that The Russo Brothers are all set to make their MCU return for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. To make things more spicy, the directors announced the highly anticipated return of Robert Downey Jr. to the world of Marvel, not as the beloved “Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist” Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) but as Victor Von Doom, who is better known as Doctor Doom. Marvel’s SDCC panel caused quite a stir on social media and in Hollywood. It certainly attracted the attention of many prominent Hollywood figures, including Rebel Moon’s helmer Zack Snyder.
The Russo Brothers departed from the MCU after Avengers: Endgame, and worked on many projects outside the world of Marvel, such as the Extraction movies, Cherry, The Gray Man, Citadel, and more. Now, the Russos are back as helmers for Marvel Studios and Zack Snyder has something to say about this scenario.
In his recent interview with Cinemablend, Snyder discussed the director’s cuts of his Rebel Moon movies. When asked about his thoughts on the Russos returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is what he said:
“I think that’s great for them. They’re amazing, and they’ve done really, I think they’ve done great work with those guys. I’m sure they’ll do something amazing. They’re talented guys, and I think they’ll do something cool. I think it’s time to shake it up a little bit.”
It looks like Snyder really likes Anthony and Joe Russo and seems impressed with their filmography and their contribution to Marvel Studios. Like many Marvel fans, the Rebel Moon director seems eager to watch the epic conclusion of The Multiverse Saga. His statement “It’s time to shake it up a little bit” likely means that he believes that the Russos should try something new, maybe something different from the usual Marvel formula. Or he could mean their upcoming work would change things at Marvel or among fans.
It’s hard to say exactly what Snyder meant. But it’s great to see him showing his excitement and praise for the directorial duo. Back when Snyder was fighting hard for his Justice League cut with Warner Bros, the Russos were one of the very first representatives from Marvel Studios who openly supported the director and his vision for the DCEU. Stay tuned for more updates.
