Zack Snyder to Direct a Star-Wars Inspired Sci-fi Film for Netflix

Zack Snyder’s last film was the zombie heist actioner ‘Army of the Dead’. The popularity of the movie led the Netflix film to be viewed by millions of viewers and it made its way into the streaming giant’s top ten most-watched movies soon after its release.

And now, Zack Snyder is already geared up for his next directorial film titled ‘Rebel Moon’, which is reportedly (via Hollywood Reporter) an epic science fiction fantasy. The script of the film is being written by Snyder himself along with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) and Kurt Johnstad (300).

‘Rebel Moon’ is being described as a grand science fiction adventure that revolves around a far-off peaceful colony bordering the galaxy. The colony is endangered by the presence of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. As a result, the residents are forced to send a young woman on a mission in order to find warriors from nearby planets to defend themselves.

Regarding the inspiration behind his latest sci-fi venture, Zack Snyder had stated that “This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan. It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.”

Interestingly, the seeds for the idea of ‘Rebel Moon’ were sown almost ten years back when Zack Snyder had prepared a pitch for a ‘Star Wars’ universe project. Things didn’t fully materialize then but we are mighty glad that the ambitious venture is taking meaningful shape now. To implement such a big-ticket project, Snyder is leaving no stone unturned and has roped in some of his trusted former collaborators to fulfill his grand vision.

‘Rebel Moon’ is expected to commence production in the year 2022. Zack Synder and his wife Deborah Snyder will co-produce the film along with Wesley Coller, Eric Newman, and Sarah Bowen (executive producer). Stay tuned for this space for the latest updates regarding the film.
