Zack Snyder has finalised the lead for his next Netflix film after the just-released ‘Army Of Thieves’. Actress Sophia Boutella will play the lead role in the ‘Star Wars’ inspired sci-fi film. The Algerian actress has earlier appeared as the titular lead in the 2017 film ‘The Mummy’, and supporting roles in Atomic Blonde, Star Trek Beyond, among others. She has also played more central roles in films like Kingsman: The Secret Service, Climax and Hotel Artemis.
Sophia Boutella’s role in ‘Rebel Moon’ will be that of a young woman who is dispatched to neighbouring planets to seek out warriors against marauding armies of tyrannical Regent Balisarius. The official logline from Netflix reads,
“When a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighbouring planets to help them take a stand.”
“Rebel Moon” is a sci-fi adventure, Star Wars-inspired movie, to be launched on a grand scale. The script for Rebel Moon has been co-written by Zack Snyder, Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad. Hatten co-wrote Army of the Dead with Zack Snyder, and Johnstad worked on 300 with Snyder.
Zack Snyder has formed a lucrative partnership with Netflix, under a two-year exclusive deal. His already released film on Netflix are zombie flick ‘Army Of The Dead’ and its prequel film ‘Army Of Thieves’. He has anime flick “Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas” and anime series “Twilight of the Gods”; in the works at Netflix, besides an action film that will mark the directorial debut of stunt coordinator, Damon Caro, a long-time collaborator of Zack Snyder’s.
