Zee5 had a very silent kind of December with only three titles coming up on the platform and all of them in Hindi. Though the good thing about them was that they were all Zee5 Originals and not licensed content.
First up came the web series ‘Maeri’ which to be honest felt like a regressive freemake of Sridevi’s ‘Mom’ that no one asked for. The show feels like a trauma and you might yourself feel victimised watching it. Yes it’s that bad!
Next up there there was Manoj Bajpayee led film ‘Despatch’ which after travelling various film festivals came to Zee5 and had high hopes. But the film could not attract the kind of attention ‘Bandaa’ did and despite being a watchable film it mostly fell flat.
Lastly, we had Sharib Hashmi led ‘Khoj: Parchaiyon Ke Uss Paar’, a show where a man suffering from paranoia searches for his wife. The mystery thriller series makes for a decent one time watch but there’s nothing very special or extraordinary about it.
Overall, Zee5 did try more with originals this past December, though not working out is another story. The month was pretty dry for the platform and that made it market last month’s hit ‘Aindham Vedham’ more than what actually came out in December. Hopefully the new year will bring in new and better content for Zee5.
