To begin with, Zee5 had a great February. After long the platform got a breakthrough it was looking for and that came in the form of Sanya Malhotra starrer ‘Mrs.’ While there were other releases as well (which we will discuss further) nothing came even close.
Remake of the acclaimed Malayalam film ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’, Arati Kadav’s ‘Mrs.’ was the first to land on Zee5 in February and instantly became a talk of the town. Having received praises during its festival runs, the film made a blockbuster OTT debut registering the biggest opening ever on Zee5.
‘Mrs.’ sparked much debate online about whether it portrays the reality or is it just a fake feminist propaganda cinema. But all of it doesn’t matter when it comes to bringing in the numbers for the streamer.
Other than ‘Mrs.’, Zee5 also launched its original series ‘Pyaar Testing’ and ‘Crime Beat’ which were rather passable but got outshined by ‘Mrs.’.
Similar was the situation with Kannada film ‘Max’ and Hindi film ‘Main Raj Kapoor Ho Gaya’ that also premiered on Zee5 in February. Despite having decent reviews the films were barely noticed on OTT.
Overall, it was a ‘Mrs.’ show all the way and honestly nothing else mattered on Zee5 in February even if it was good.
