2022 has been a much better year for Zee5 than any other year since its inception. The platform gained some highly buzzy films such as Valimai, RRR, and The Kashmir Files. It helped them get a kind of viewership unprecedented as their originals couldn’t attract the audience in the same way.
In a recent interview Archana Anand, from Zee5 Global revealed how she targeted Zee5 to establish itself in the USA market particularly. In fact, they are seeing the USA as their primary market after India.
The most prominent factor that helped them gain a buzz was the RRR factor. In case you are unaware, the Hindi version of the film was grabbed by Netflix and it is one of the most successful films on the platform. There was a humongous American crowd on the platform for the film as Rajamouli’s genius attracted them.
On the other hand, Zee5 could target the International market only through South Asians because Netflix didn’t have to market it that aggressively.
Zee5 collaborated with student bodies and Indian supermarkets to promote their platform. Archana Anand also went on to say that films bring views from outside India but original series don’t.
She also stated that it is not just Bollywood but a lot of Telugu content that people are loving.
Thus licensed films and the India factor is what led Zee5 to jump into the American market this year.
