Half of 2024 is already over and we have seen a lot of content on OTT platforms in these past 6 months. Talking specifically about Zee5, the streamer had its own share of projects that came up on the platform and where some worked well, some other failed to impress.
Before getting into a detailed analysis let’s check out the major titles that came out on Zee5 in first six months of 2024:

Analysis
As from above it becomes quite clear that Zee5 had a lot lesser original content, in terms of both films and shows, when compared to the huge number of licensed films, consisting of big and small titles. Let’s get to each category one by one.
In case of original movies, there was nothing standout. Manoj Bajpayee led Silence 2 and Sunny Singh and Avneet Kaur starrer Luv Ki Arrange Marriage were big disappointments. Woh Bhi Din The and Kaam Chalu Hai did not create much wave; and Rautu Ka Raaz and Lantrani were the only saving grace.
Coming to original series, Zee5 did really well in this category. Except Sunflower Season 2, all the other shows that came out on Zee5 performed good. Whether it was Hindi series The Broken News Season 2, or Telugu shows Thelamai Seyalagam and Paruvu, each of them entertained. Special mention for Paruvu here, it’s a must watch.
And now comes the long list of licensed films and Zee5 has gone all out to source all sorts of film from across the nation. Whether it’s Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada or Malayalam, there’s something for everyone. These titles included some box office flops like Tejas, Main Atal Hoon, and Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan. Some of the films were highly popular like ‘The Kerala Story’ and ‘Sam Bahadur’ and their OTT premiere was much awaited. Others were in between and worked for some viewers while not so much for others.
Overall, for the first half of 2024, Zee5 fared well in terms of original series and needs to be more diligent when it comes to original films. As for licensed films, the platform had sourced better films last year and can do much better in the second half.
