Documentary features and series are the new buzzword in content on OTT. Hard-hitting documentaries have captured the imagination of digital viewers in recent times. Well-made documentary films and docuseries are not just informative and enlightening, they also make a gripping and riveting watch.
Top streaming platforms Netflix and Prime Video have made engaging documentaries a standard part of their content slate in recent times. Now, homegrown streaming giant ZEE5 has jumped on to the documentary bandwagon. The platform has announced four new hard-hitting documentaries, all four of which will be available to stream as part of regular subscription-based VOD.
The four documentaries announced by ZEE5 are ‘I Am Greta’, ‘The Dissident’, ‘The Kingmaker’, and ‘Armed with Faith’. All four documentaries will be available to stream on ZEE5 from 28th July, 2023.
I Am Greta is directed by Nathan Grossman and documents the rise of teen environmentalist Greta Thunberg and her international crusade to get people to listen to scientists about the world’s environmental problems.
The Dissident is from the academy award winning director of Icarus, Bryan Fogel, and premiered at Sundance Film Festival, 2020. The film is based on real-life story of Washington DC journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who disappeared in Istanbul. The documentary showcases how Khashoggi’s fiancée and dissidents around the world piece together the clues to his murder, and the subsequent global cover up.
The Kingmaker is written and directed by Lauren Greenfield and examines the controversial history of Filipino politician Imelda Marcos and her family.
Finally, Armed with Faith is directed and produced by award-winning filmmakers, Asad Faruqi and Geeta Gandbhir. It takes us to the Afghan-Pakistani border of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where landmines and suicide bombings are a harsh reality. The documentary reveals the untold stories of those living amidst violence and turmoil in the war-torn regions.
