Zee5 March Report: When Will This Slump Be Over!

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Zee5 has been in a slump ever since the start of 2025 and the month of March was no exception. The Indian streamer had nothing much to offer other than a couple of licensed films.

Anil Ravipudi’s Telugu action comedy drama ‘Sankranthi Vasthunam’ was the first title to make way to Zee5 in March followed by Tamil comedy drama ‘Kudumbasthan’ a few days later. They garnered the deserved attention on their OTT premiere after successful box office runs.

But after these two the whole March was a dry run on Zee5. Unnoticeable titles like ‘Zindagi Milegi Dobara’, ‘Riwaz’ and ‘Vitromates’ aired on the platform and neither did Zee5 nor the viewers bothered much about them.

Next known release on the platform was Hindi family drama ‘Vanvaas’ starring Nana Patekar and Utkarsh Sharma and just as its theatrical run the OTT debut was also underwhelming.

We also had Vertimaran’s ‘Viduthalai Part 2’s Hindi version streaming on Zee5 this March, but since the other language versions were already available on Prime Video it went almost unnoticed.

It was towards the end of March that Zee5’s only original series, a Tamil action comedy ‘Seruppugal Jaakirathai’, premiered on the platform but the early reviews suggest that it has missed the mark and hence failed to deliver.

Lastly, Telugu romantic comedy ‘Mazaka’ released on Zee5 after its theatrical run and this one met the same poor fate as most of the other titles that premiered on the platform this March.

Overall, despite a number of tittles landing on the platform in March, Zee5 could not manage to come out of its ongoing slump and rather seems to have further got stuck in it. There seems to be nothing promising coming up on Zee5 in April too and that raises the concerns even more. Hopefully Zee5 accelerates its content strategy in the forthcoming months.
