If you find the title intriguing, the premise is even more so. The movie is inspired by the controversial and forcible sterilisation drive ordered by the government during the Emergency of 1976.
The movie, starring Divyenndu Sharma, Shweta Basu Prasad and Sheetal Thakur, will address the grave issue, albeit in a comic manner. Narrated as a comedy, the movie features Divyenndu Sharma as the protagonist who is forcibly sterilised, and the hilarious situations he has to face as a result.
The film is produced by Reliance Entertainment and directed by National Award winning director, Bishnu Dev Halder.
In a Zee5 release, Halder said:
“Shukranu is a humorous take on one of the dark phases of our democracy when the government’s family planning programme was forced upon the people. The idea is to make people laugh while talking about a serious issue. We have had multiple narrations and all of them have reverberated with laughter.”
Aparna Acharekar, programming head at ZEE5 India, said:
“Shukranu is sure to be an interesting mix in our content library. The film is packed with twists and turns. We are sure the pulse of the film will entertain our viewers and leave them in splits.”
Shukranu went on the floors last week, and will premiere on ZEE5 early next year.
