October hasn’t been a busy month for Zee5 but it was definitely a big one when it comes to post theatrical OTT run for certain films. On the other hand on the series front there was only one title that came out but no doubt it was famous one.
Coming to regional language content, there wasn’t anything exciting or attention grabbing. Before venturing further into details of these contents let’s see all that came out on Zee5 this past October:
Licensed Movies:
Raksha Bandhan– Hit
Karthikeya 2– Hit
Bimbisara– Hit
Web Series:
Tripling Season 3– Average
From the above list it is pretty conspicuous that there was not much original content from Zee5 in October and in totality the platform didn’t have much to offer its subscribers. It mostly rode on the success of its three digital premieres that were highly awaited on OTT.
October was a month of quality over quantity for Zee5 and it seems to have worked well for the platform. Talking about Raksha Bandhan, while the film didn’t match the expected levels at the box office, people surely loved the family drama on OTT where it crossed over 150 million watch minutes in over a weeks time.
Next up on Zee5 was ‘Karthikeya 2’ and the film that had created a huge impact in theatres continued its success streak on OTT as well, in turn churning out good numbers for the platform. Similar was the case for Kannada superhit film ‘Bimbisara’.
Zee5’s made some good selections by acquiring the digital rights for these films that made up for the lack of original content on Zee5 in October.
Coming to web series, there was only ‘Tripling’ season 3 by TVF. The comedy drama has had two successful seasons previously and this latest season though had some hiccups in the beginning managed to have a decent season ending.
Other than the above films like ‘Juda Hoke Bhi’ (Hindi), ‘Gaalipata 2’ (Kannada), ‘Hirdpindo’ (Bengali), ‘Agantuk’ (Bengali), ‘Window Seat’ (Kannada), ‘Antardhan’ (Bengali) and ‘Taut’ (Punjabi) also premiered on zee5 in October but these barely made any impact. In fact, the lesser original content was a blessing for Zee5 as it could focus well on promoting the licensed films and the web series.
Overall, Zee5 managed a good viewership for October and we would give it a 6 out of 10.
