As you may already know, RRR was released on two platforms. Original Telugu version with Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam released on Zee5. On the same day, the Hindi version of the film was released on Netflix.
In this case, there are two factors. The first is the language factor.
No doubt that Zee5 had a big edge in that. Not only does it have 4 languages but also the original audio which is Telugu.
The second factor is the subscriber base. It’s true that Zee5 is available in 190 countries but the subscriber count of Netflix is far ahead of what Zee5 can ever get at least in the near future.
Balancing the two, we may come to a mutual conclusion that a comparison between the performance of the film on the two platforms is legit.
Unlike Netflix, Zee5 doesn’t usually and consistently publish the viewership data of films/series on their platform. But today, they have.
The official Twitter handle of Zee5 Kannada tweeted that RRR is the most-watched film on Zee5 with data. According to the platform, RRR has been streamed for over 1000 Million minutes on their platform. Since they didn’t mention any specific language, it is safe to assume that the views are in totality of all four versions of the audio.

1000 Million minutes roughly translate into 16666666.7 hours.
Now, let’s come to the Netflix stats. In the first week, the film garnered 7,180,000 hours of views. In the second and third week, it paced up to bag 18,360,000 and 13,940,000 hours respectively.
In total it has 39,480,000 hours of views.
Now, let’s make it simpler. RRR was viewed on Netflix for almost 22,813,334 hours MORE than it was watched on Zee5.
And it is an astonishing number. Because the difference is greater than the highest views RRR could earn on Netflix in its most productive week.
The message is loud and clear. RRR is an enormously more successful film on Netflix than it is on Zee5. Credit goes to the super-strong word of mouth and the marketing tactic by Netflix. It was promoted in Netflix Geeked Week and also from the official handle of the platform which never happened before for an Indian film.
