Zee5 September Report: ‘Haddi’ Couldn’t Rescue Much

The past few months have been very underwhelming for Zee5 due to lack of good original content or even licensed films. September was no exception in this regard despite some good films making their way to the platform.

September for Zee5 started with the launch of films like Tamil horror comedy ‘DD Returns’, Bengali Romantic comedy ‘Biye Bibhrat’ and Hindi comedy drama ‘Yeh Shaadi Nahi Ho Sakti’.

‘DD Returns’ had a theatrical release in July earlier this year and received positive reviews from critics and became commercially successful at box office. On its digital debut on Zee5 in September, the film continued its success run and managed to gain more than 250 million viewing minutes on the platform.

Coming to the other two, ‘Biye Bibhrat’ and ‘Yeh Shaadi Nahi Ho Sakti’, the former despite good despite its decent theatrical response alongwith the latter went mostly unnoticed.

Next up on Zee5 was its most awaited title of September, Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer ’Haddi’. While the highlight of the film are the impactful performances from the lead cast, the film falls short on fronts like – tedious length, messy writing and poor editing. Overall, ‘Haddi’ could not create much impact and was just a one time watch.

During the middle of September, Kannada black comedy drama ‘Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare’ landed on Zee5 post its theatrical run where it had received positive reviews from critics who praised its humor, cinematography, music and screenwriting. Upon its digital streaming on Zee5 the film could attract only a certain section of audience who loved the film.

As the month was about to end Zee5 brought two more films for its viewers – Bengali romcom ‘Angshuman MBA’ and Hindi drama ‘I Killed Bapu’. Both these films went under the radar and rightly so.

Overall, Zee5 had another dull month in September and while the streamer had high hopes with ‘Haddi’ it couldn’t come to the rescue as expected.
