ZEE5, one of the biggest homegrown OTT platforms in the country, has signed a far-reaching deal with Cosmos-Maya, the leading animation studio in India. Under the deal, Cosmos-Maya will provide 250+ episodes of its content for streaming on ZEE5 Kids, ZEE5’s recently-formed division that delivers content exclusively for children. The deal will help ramp up the content available in ZEE5 Kids.
Included in the deal are Season 2 of Guddu, which chronicles the exploits of a circus lion called Guddu. Season 1 of Guddu premiered this week on ZEE5. Guddu is a spin-off series from popular animated series, Motu Patlu.
The deal also includes an animated show on Gandhiji, called Bapu, which acquaints kids with the teachings of Bapu in a fun, engaging way through animation. Bapu’s three monkeys add the fun element to the series. Lastly, there is a series called Gadget Guru Ganesha, which acquaints kid with Indian traditions and the Indian way of life through an engaging story line.
These newly acquired 250+ episodes will take the total number of episodes of animated content sourced from Cosmos-Maya to 500+ episodes. ZEE5 had earlier signed an agreement for 250+ episodes, that included Cosmos-Maya’s creations, ViR: The Robot Boy, Eena Meena Deeka and Chacha Bhatija.
In a very short time, Cosmos-Maya has become Asia’s leading kids’ animation studio. It currently has almost 20 kiddie animated series streaming on various streaming platforms and TV channels globally, including Motu Patlu, Selfie With Bajrangi and Inspector Chingum. It is owned by leading filmmaker pair of the country, Ketan Mehta and Deepa Sahi.
