Homegrown streaming giant ZEE5 has postponed the release of ‘Koose Munisamy Veerappan’, its hyped documentary series on the notorious sandalwood smuggler and dacoit, Veerappan. The six-episode Tamil language series was to release on 8th December, 2023 earlier, which is this Friday. However, ZEE5 has postponed the release date of ‘Koose Munisamy Veerappan’ to 14th December, 2023, which is Thursday of next week.
ZEE5 has also revealed the reason for postponing ‘Koose Munisamy Veerappan’ on its official social media handles. The devastating rains and subsequent floods in Chennai are the reason cited by ZEE5 for postponing Koose Munisamy Veerappan.
ZEE5 posted this on its ZEE5 Tamil handle on X – “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the rain and floods in this difficult time as we postpone our upcoming release, Koose Munisamy Veerappan, to December 14!”
Koose Munisamy Veerappan is yet another new documentary series on Veerappan, this time in Tamil. The series is directed by Sharath Jothi, and produced by Prabhavathi RV. Interestingly, this series will recount Veerappan’s life and times, using footage shot by acclaimed journalist Nakkeeran Gopal, for his Tamil publication, Nakkheeran.
For those who don’t know, Nakkeeran Gopal was the first journalist to venture into the dense forests and interview Veerappan in his den. He did it not once but several times in his career. ZEE5 series Koose Munisamy Veerappan is based on the actual footage shot by him of Veerappan, and his extensive interviews with the forest brigand.
Koose Munisamy Veerappan premieres on ZEE5 on 14th December, 2023.
