ZEE5 Targets Telugu OTT With RRR And RC15

ZEE5 has been churning out a big-budget plan to expand its footprint in the Telugu OTT market. The OTT giant has now bagged the digital streaming rights of two Telugu cinema’s biggest projects, namely RRR and RC15. It is known that ZEE5 had already acquired the post theatrical digital streaming rights (south Indian languages) of RRR. The latest news is that the platform has acquired the negative rights of Ram Charan and Shankar’s RC15.

Earlier, there were reports that ZEE5 is partnering with Dil Raju to co-produce RC15. But the latest developments are implying that the media giant has bagged the negative rights (theatrical, digital, satellite, and audio rights) of the Ram Charan starrer. If that is the case, ZEE5 will own the post theatrical digital streaming rights of RC15.

RC15 marks the coming together of Shankar and Ram Charan. It will be Charan’s immediate next project after the mighty RRR. The as-yet-untitled project is riding high on buzz already. ZEE5 was quick to gauge the scale of the project and as it appears, the platform has associated with the project.

ZEE5 is yet to carve a niche for itself in the Telugu OTT market. Their recent outing Raja Raja Chora caught the attention of the Telugu OTT audience but it can’t be termed the cornerstone film for the platform. But with RRR and RC15 in the kitty, ZEE5 could well emerge as the top player in the Telugu OTT space. These are two of the most awaited films and Telugu cinema and they might well fetch ZEE5 a strong viewer base in the Telugu market.
