The film which premiered at the 50th International Film Festival of India in the Panorama Section and Bagri Foundation London Indian Film Festival last year is inspired by the real life of IPS officer, Abhayanand who was the DGP of Bihar.
The film is about Bucchi, a rickshaw driver whose only dream in life is to educate his son well which proves to be a fatal and dangerous wish as he goes against all odds to fulfill this dream.
It’s a commentary on the ruthless and corrupt education system in our country and how even such basic needs can’t be fulfilled by the economically challenged masses due to their inaccessibility.
Recently the film found a surprising admirer; acclaimed British filmmaker, Peter Webber. Webber praised the film saying, “Pareeksha is a marvelous film with a stunning and heart-breaking central performance from Adil Hussain. It draws water from the same well as the classic Italian movie Bicycle Thieves. Not to be missed!”
