This afternoon, ZEE5 launched the first trailer for its upcoming show, ‘Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt. Ltd.’ The show comes from the stables of The Viral Fever, inarguably the pioneers of OTT entertainment in India. And going by the trailer, The Viral Fever, aka TVF for short, seems to have another winner on its hands. ‘Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt. Ltd.’ is the first ZEE5 project under the recent content deal signed between ZEE5 and TVF. The series premieres on ZEE5 on July 8.
‘Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt. Ltd‘ comes on the heels of several wildly successful shows recently from The Viral Fever – Gullak, Kota Factory, Aspirants and Panchayat. From the whimsical problems of a small-town family in Gullak, to showcasing the struggles of aspiring students in Aspirants and Kota Factory, to the quirks of an urban student grappling with rural living in Panchayat, The Viral Fever’s recent shows cover the entire spectrum of digital viewership. There’s something for everyone in The Viral Fever’s content library.
Except women; or more specifically, housewives, who know nothing beyond the four walls of their homes. TVF’s latest show for ZEE5, ‘Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt. Ltd.’, seeks to correct this anomaly. The trailer depicts a housewife, who’s thrown into the deep end when her husband leaves her for another woman. She, who’s known nothing beyond caring for home, hearth and husband, must suddenly find the means to earn a sizeable income in order to get the custody of her kids. In a way, ‘Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt. Ltd.’ is a coming-of-age story of sorts, albeit of a middle-aged housewife.
Heartwarmingly, her strongest support comes in the form of her own mother-in-law, who sides with her daughter-in-law instead of her son. Amruta Subhash plays the daughter-in-law, while Yamini Das plays her m-i-l. Anup Soni plays the philandering husband.
The trailer of ‘Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt. Ltd.’ is quiet and charming. Everything happens at a leisurely pace – there’s nothing in-your-face or aggressive about it. That’s what makes it even more endearing to the viewer. The show is created by Arunabh Kumar of The Viral Fever, along with Apoorv Singh Karki. ‘Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt. Ltd.’ is written by Abhishek Srivastava and Swarnadeep Biswas, and directed by Karki. Looks like TVF and ZEE5 have a winner on their hands.
