Multiple award-winning American actress Zendaya has been in the headlines for quite some time now. Most recently it was for her megahit feature film ‘Dune 2’ and her upcoming sports dramedy ‘Challengers’. Starring opposite her in leading roles are Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist.
The plot of the film by Italian director Luca Guadagnino revolves around Tashi, a tennis player-turned-coach who has transformed her husband from a mediocre player into a world-renowned grand slam champion. To pull him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a challenger event. Tensions run high when he stands across the net from the burnt-out Patrick, his former best friend, and Tashi’s former boyfriend.
While the film is set to premiere in theatres on April 26, it has already garnered widespread rave reviews from critics. Not only that, it also debuted with a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score! The Tomatometer has been fluctuating but has stabilized at 98% for now. ‘Challengers’ is rapidly becoming Guadagnino’s biggest film since ‘Call Me By Your Name’!
He still has another film ready to go this year, “Queer,” and is then off to work on “Separate Rooms”, with Lea Seydoux and Josh O’Connor, in Italy. As more reviews pour in and the release date inches closer, only time will tell if this fan-anticipated title will deliver!
