Zendaya’s ‘Challengers’ Eyes For An Impressive Box Office Opening

Zendaya’s latest romantic sports drama, Challengers, is all set to outperform other theatrical releases this weekend. According to Deadline, the Luca Guadagnino’s film is eyeing for a $15.2 million opening.

As per the early predictions, Challengers was expected to mint nearly $12-15 million in its opening weekend. However, the latest update from Deadline has confirmed that the film may actually earn just a little over the early predictions. It made $1.9 million in Thursday previews.

Despite eyeing such an impressive opening, the newest Zendaya film may struggle to emerge as a financial success at the global box office.

Challengers has been made on a noticeable budget of $55 million. It may need to collect at least $130-150 million to become a profitable product for Pascal Pictures and MGM.

Also, big upcoming releases like The Fall Guy (May 3) and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (May 10) may complicate Challengers’ survival at the box office. The Fall Guy has talents like Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, and is helmed by David Leitch. It has a tremendous hype behind it. Plus, it opened with a spectacular response from critics at this year’s SXSW festival. On the other hand, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes may benefit from the global prominence of the ‘Apes’ franchise.

Challengers stars Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, Mike Faist, Hailey Gates, AJ Lister, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
