Applause Entertainment’s Nandita Das directorial film ‘Zwigato’ has received much praise at the international film festivals and will be available for Indian viewers in theatres from tomorrow, clashing with another acclaim worthy film ‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’ led by Ranj Mukherji.
Starring Kapil Sharma as a food delivery agent with Shahana Goswami playing the role of his wife ‘Zwigato’ had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2022 and then went on to deliver at the Busan International Film Festival.
‘Zwigato’ has since been praised for its brilliant writing, heartfelt storyline, impeccable performances, deft direction and more. To see how general public responds to it will be interesting given the film is not mass-centric and neither is there any A-list Bollywood star attached to it.
On the other hand we have Rani Mukherji’s ‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’ also releasing in theatres tomorrow. It is yet another heart-wrenching story of a mother who fought against a foreign nation for her children. Response to the film’s trailer and the early screening reviews have been very positive.
Since both the films are stories of hope and relentlessness in life, it will be interesting to see which one will be preferred by movie goers. The clash is pretty fair as none of these films is a mass masala entertainer with very big names and both have stories that will touch hearts.
It’s just a day’s matter when ‘Zwigato’ and ‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’ will be put to the ultimate public test. Both the films are exceptions to the more preferred action/thriller dramas but that in any sense does not mean they are any less content wise.
While it’s upto the larger audience to decide the box office fate of ‘Zwigato’ and ‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’, such films deserve the big screen as much as any other film and aren’t just meant for OTT.
